My First Morning in Paris
What happens in this episode
It's Rose's very first morning in Paris. She orders her first croissant in French, survives "table Tetris" at a tiny café, and meets Alex at a quiche cooking class. The French Ritual is a story-based French podcast where you learn French by living Rose's life with her.
Rose wakes up in Paris after falling asleep at 4 am with jet lag. At a café terrace, three inches from a silent, smoking stranger, she orders her very first croissant in French. Then she books a quiche cooking class, and the universe pairs her with Alex, who becomes her first French teacher. While the quiche bakes, she discovers something surprising about where he lives.
You'll hear everyday French spoken naturally, repeated so it sticks, and explained in English as the story unfolds. No grammar drills, no textbook dialogues.
French you'll learn in Episode 02
In Episode 02, you'll learn the everyday French for your first morning in Paris: how to order at a café like a local, answer the waiter's questions and ask for the bill. You'll also learn what to say when you don't understand, and the kitchen French Rose picks up at her quiche-cooking class, from chopping vegetables to putting the quiche in the oven.
THE RITUAL
Rose's Diary
At the end of every day, Rose opens her notebook and goes back over the French she met. It's her ritual, and it becomes yours.
These aren't random vocabulary words. Each one is attached to something that really happened to her today (so context): the tiny café table, her first order, and mixing the quiche next to Alex. She draws a little picture next to each phrase and reads it aloud. Then she closes her notebook, writes down every word she can remember, and reviews the ones she forgot.
That's the idea behind The French Ritual: you learn French by living Rose's life with her.

THE METHOD
Rose's Memory Tricks
Rose doesn't memorise French from vocabulary lists. She creates sound-alike mnemonics: memorable connections between French words, familiar English sounds and what is happening in her life.
The stranger and more visual the association, the easier it is to remember when you hear the French again.
