Episode 02 · DAY 02
Episode 03
Wine & Cheese Party
Rose's second day in Paris: her first visit to the local boulangerie, then a wine-and-cheese apéro at Alex's, with Sacré-Cœur right outside the window. The French Ritual is a story-based French podcast where you learn French by living Rose's life with her.
What happens in this episode
Rose's second morning starts at the boulangerie, where she discovers why a baguette tradition beats a normal baguette, and learns the hard way that « je veux » is not the polite way to ask. That evening, she knocks on Alex's door for a wine-and-cheese apéro. She meets Nora and Paul, mistakes a debate about politics for a fight, gets exhausted trying to follow the French, and learns how the French pair wine and cheese. The night is going perfectly… until she and Alex step outside.
You'll hear everyday French spoken naturally, repeated so it sticks, and explained in English as the story unfolds. No grammar drills, no textbook dialogues.
French you'll learn in Episode 03
In Episode 03, you'll learn how to order at a French boulangerie like a local, pay, and tell the baker to keep the change, plus the one politeness rule that saves you from dirty looks. Then at Alex's apéro: how to greet people in the evening, small talk on the balcony, what to say when you didn't catch something, and how the French talk about wine and cheese, right up to raising a toast.
THE RITUAL
Rose's Diary
At the end of every day, Rose opens her notebook and goes back over the French she met. It's her ritual, and it becomes yours.
These aren't random vocabulary words. Each one is attached to something that really happened to her today (so context): the tiny café table, her first order, and mixing the quiche next to Alex. She draws a little picture next to each phrase and reads it aloud. Then she closes her notebook, writes down every word she can remember, and reviews the ones she forgot.
That's the idea behind The French Ritual: you learn French by living Rose's life with her.
Jour 03 Vocabulary
j'ai des étoiles plein les yeux · un apéro · une baguette tradition · ce sera tout ? · gardez la monnaie · bonsoir · très gentille · son truc préféré · il fait beau ce soir · se marier · levons nos verres
THE METHOD
Rose's Memory Tricks
Rose doesn't memorise French from vocabulary lists. She creates sound-alike mnemonics: memorable connections between French words, familiar English sounds and what is happening in her life.
The stranger and more visual the association, the easier it is to remember when you hear the French again.
